Job Summary: As an Occupational Therapist at Crane Memorial Hospital, you will play a crucial role in facilitating rehabilitation and promoting health for adult and geriatric patients. Your responsibilities will include conducting occupational therapy programs, evaluating patients, designing treatment plans, and collaborating with other members of the rehabilitation team to ensure the best possible care for our patients. Your expertise and dedication will contribute to the overall success of our rehabilitation services.

Essential Job Functions:

• Provides care for the Adult or Geriatric patients, ages 18 years and over.

• Demonstrates and understands the importance of and respect for the rights, dignity, and individuality of each patient in all interactions.

• Consults with other members of the rehabilitation team to select the most appropriate activity program consistent with the needs and capabilities of each patient.

• Performs occupational therapy evaluation prescribed by a physician and establishes an appropriate plan of care based on results of evaluation.

• Delegates responsibilities and supervises activities of COTA while maintaining knowledge of the patient’s status and revise patient’s care plan as warranted.

• Selects constructive activities suited to the individual's physical capacity, intelligence level, and interest.

• Educates the patients with the skills and techniques required for participation in activities. Evaluates patients' progress, attitudes, and behaviors as related to their rehabilitative potential.

• Studies patients’ reaction while they are engaged in treatment session, their reaction to the activity program, and adapt plan of care according to the individual patient's needs.

• Submits accurate patient charges in a timely manner.

• Conducts training programs and participates in training medical and nursing personnel in occupational therapy techniques and objectives.

• Designs and fit adaptive devices such as splints and braces for patient use.

• Requisitions supplies and equipment as needed and maintains equipment.

• Develops an understanding of responsibilities for recognizing abuse and follow policy for making appropriate referrals/interventions.

• Develops an understanding of responsibilities for participation in Performance Improvement activities.

• Educates / Instructs patients and families in energy conservation, ADL performance and appropriate adaptive equipment.

• Develops and executes short- and long-term goals within documented time frames and update them as needed.

• Attends scheduled staff meetings, in-services, and training programs.

• Actively participate in continuing education programs for self-development.

• Performs other duties as assigned or delegated by the Manager.

Standard Job Duties:

• Adheres to all components of the Hospital Compliance Plan in performing job duties and reports any violations or suspected violations of the Plan to the Compliance Officer.

• Demonstrates professional conduct and complies with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

• Adheres to hospital attendance policy as outlined in the Employee Handbook.

• Complies with measures for preventing exposure to blood borne pathogens.

• Participates in the Hazardous Material Program; hazards include exposure to blood and body fluids, possible communicable diseases, sharp objects and instruments, assorted chemicals and gases as listed in the Hazardous Materials Program Manual.

• Complies with established Safety and Patient Safety Program practices.

• Performs other incidental and related duties, as required and/or assigned.

• Develops an understanding of responsibilities for recognizing patient abuse and follows policy for making appropriate referrals/interventions.

• Develops an understanding of responsibilities for participation in Performance Improvement activities and participates in such activities.

• Limits access to protected health information (PHI) to the information reasonably necessary to do the job and shares such information only on a need-to-know basis for work purposes.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. • Current unrestricted Occupational Therapy license to practice in Texas.

• Ability to read, write, and speak English.

• Basic math skills (adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing).

• Strong reasoning abilities and problem-solving skills.

• Knowledge of basic computer skills and word processing.

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Therapy.

• Proven experience in conducting occupational therapy programs.

• Experience in care for adult and geriatric patients preferred.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Oversight of Therapy Staff including Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTA) and Restorative Aides.

Work Environment:

• Moderate noise level typical of healthcare settings.

• Physical demands include occasional lifting and transferring of up to 50 pounds.

• Required vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

• Regular standing, walking, manual dexterity, reaching, talking, and hearing.
